Helpful Hints
This months helpful hint centers around the boxelder bug. Boxelder bugs are about a 1/2 inch long, black with orange or red markings. Boxelder bugs are primarily a nuisance because they enter homes and other buildings, often in large numbers. Fortunately, they don't bite people and are essentially harmless to property. We recommend that you have a pest control company (preferably ours) come out to your home or business to rid yourself of boxelder bugs. However, in a pinch if you need to decrease the amount of boxelder bugs that may have accumulated on your property, one simple home solution that can effectively be used is dishwashing liquid. By spraying dishwashing liquid (preferably Dawn) directly on the boxelder bugs, you can kill them. The dishwashing liquid breaks down the wax coating on their wings, which in turn causes the bugs to actually dry up and die. Once again this is not a remedy to treat your entire home or business, but used in a few spots here and there, this can be an effective home remedy.
